Beginning April 8, join us Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM Eastern in April and May for a livestream concert series featuring area musicians, broadcasting from La Luna Recording Studio in Kalamazoo’s Edison neighborhood.

Two principal musicians with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Gabriel Renteria-Elyea (oboe) and Yukie Ota (flute) will perform together in this special livestream performance.

Please note: this show must be watched live; there will be no replay available.

About the Musicians

Gabriel Renteria-Elyea is Principal Oboe and Artist in Residence with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, and he has played with orchestras all around the United States, including the Seattle Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, he has performed in North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

Yukie Ota is an internationally renowned flutist, but she may be most well known for her 2014 Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition performance. When a butterfly landed on her forehead, she continued to play without letting it impact her. Known as “Madame Butterfly,” the video has been viewed over 2.5 million times on YouTube.

Support for this livestream was arranged through the Kalamazoo Federation of Musicians, with a grant provided by the Music Performance Trust Fund, which is funded by Recording Companies in Canada and the United States.
