“Pop-Up” Concert with the "Koebel Covid Combo"

Saturday, November 7Sat, Nov 7 at 2:00 PM
V & A Bootery

Sometimes an opportunity for a musical performance comes up quickly – hence the name “pop-up” – and we’ll be presenting the world jazz vibes of the “Koebel Covid Combo” (Ivan Akansiima, guitar; Denis Shebokhov, bass; Carolyn Koebel, percussion) in front of V&A Bootery from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 7.

As with all events these days, we’ll ask folks use social distancing and to please wear masks. Come join us for this free event!

About the Artists

Ivan Akansiima is a multi-talented, self-taught musician (piano, bass, acoustic guitar, drums) from Uganda, East Africa. He began playing music at age 7 as a drummer for his church in his home town of Jinja.

Denis Shebokhov is a musician and an educator who’s played his string bass around West Michigan for over 20 years – you probably won’t find a local musician that hasn’t shared a stage with him. Denis performs regularly with local groups like Gull Lake Jazz Orchestra, Lana Hoffman Trio, John Shea Trio, and many others.

Carolyn Koebel has been exploring rhythm and vibration for the past thirty years. She divides her time between hospice music therapy, teaching, and accompanying at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, and universities around the country, as well as touring regionally and internationally with a variety of ensembles.
