Sound & Spirit of Kalamazoo

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

Our annual program featured a sampling of musicians from across the area, representing diverse faiths – traditional music ensemble Hazeltree (Ginny Shilliday, Vivian Abramowitz, and Jackie Zito, pictured); pianist Hannah Kim; organist Brendan W. Carter; Orchestra Rouh, an after-school and summer music program open to international students ages 7-17 in Kalamazoo; Bahar Ensemble, a collection of musicians from Kurdistan, Saudi Arabia, and America playing traditional Middle Eastern music; and Pavitra, Samadhi, and Poojani Attanayake, Portage Public School students and dance students of Susan Iervolina.

The musical performances were partnered with Scribes of Hope II, a traveling exhibit commemorating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation featuring works by contemporary calligraphers, curated by Timothy Botts.
